Detoxification
"To eliminate the pollutants in a large stream that is contaminated at its source, we must work on the problems upstream at the headwaters — the source of pollution — not downstream where we can only try to treat the evidence of damage caused by the pollution. Ionized water's contribution to preventive medicine is essentially upstream treatment." Dr. Hidemitsu Hayashi, Director of the Water Institute of Japan.
Our digestive tract and the food and drink we put into it are the source of "upstream" pollution. Digestion of food creates substances that could be considered pollutants or toxins, even if your food is the best and cleanest. These metabolic products of digestion — hydrogen sulfide, ammonia, histamines, indoles, phenols, and scatoles — are what ionized water works on in the digestive tract, neutralizing them and turning them into harmless substances.
Ionized water also has an effect "downstream" on the liver where it can enter more easily due to its molecular size. It acts as an anti-oxidant, blocking the effect of active oxygen on the cells. Throughout the body, ionized water donates its electrons to active oxygen free radicals and the molecules that have been damaged by active oxygen, so the free radical cascade of damage is stopped.
